What I liked was the initial effort that described the technique and its origins was followed by an alternative description containing the benefits of using it and tips for conducting a Quick Debrief - similar to the way the online editor Wordtune works. The benefits and tips were simplistic/minimal (single phrase or sentence) but a start for a technique that's not covered in the literature as well as some others, such as After Action Reviews or Lessons Learned. What I liked best was the easy view of three alternative descriptions that included the origins of Quick Debrief, strengths and weaknesses of the technique, benefits of using it, and tips for conducting a Quick Debrief. The list of benefits and tips were a bit simplistic - one line - but a good start for a technique that gets less coverage than several other techniques, such as After Action Reviews, but could be effective in the right situations. I still remember many years ago at UCLA when a Vice-Provost held a big kickoff lunch for all of those even tangentially involved in the new 3-Quarter-long Freshman Cluster Program, which later received at least one award for innovation and effectiveness. Well, the Vice-Provost introduced all of the faculty and TAs for each Cluster course. Finally, she introduced the librarians together with the janitorial staff, as service support. That was quite disappointing. About 10 years after that, though, I almost fell off my chair when I received a message from that same Vice-Provost's Administrative Assistant, asking me to contribute a brief essay regarding information literacy to UCLA's re-accreditation packet. IL was lumped in with IT, but at least there was some recognition of its value. I'm guessing it helped that a number of Cluster students mentioned the value of ILI in their course evaluations, especially since there weren't any questions in the evaluation form about IL. So, from a personal and historical point of view, it's sad to see this backwards move...
Esther GrassianEsther Grassianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02217191914673481842noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15328831.post-9349978019684709362021-08-19T11:46:43.512+01:002021-08-19T11:46:43.512+01:00Thank you for tanking the interest in our session ...Thank you for tanking the interest in our session and for your precise report. Just one addition to the summary re IL journals, and that is the point that *Research Strategies,* the first IL journal, peer reviewed, existed from 1983 to 2005. A number of important articles were published in *Research Strategies,* and those in what was called "Bibliographic Instruction" at the time were so proud of having thatjournal available, edited for the most part, as I recall, by Barbara Wittkopf and an editorial board. Just a reminder of that important piece of the history of the development of what is now called Information Literacy.
EstherEsther Grassianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02217191914673481842noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15328831.post-25021295155636941292020-07-21T18:02:58.081+01:002020-07-21T18:02:58.081+01:00It may be that if you register you get sent a link...It may be that if you register you get sent a link to the recording, but I could only see links to the slides, on the SLA website (in individual blog posts at https://connect.sla.org/education/home)
Sorry for the delay in commenting!Sheila Webberhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09929764583069948543noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15328831.post-56536399470659445502020-07-02T15:54:40.404+01:002020-07-02T15:54:40.404+01:00Are these sessions recorded and can they be sent t...Are these sessions recorded and can they be sent to those who register?Bethhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07123196611346967736noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15328831.post-63694338426095839862020-04-16T07:06:57.310+01:002020-04-16T07:06:57.310+01:00Love it! :)Love it! :)Majehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12145405325890400940noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15328831.post-82693453478682137512020-03-06T17:21:34.718+00:002020-03-06T17:21:34.718+00:00Just want to add that the LILi Conference is free-...Just want to add that the LILi Conference is free--no registration fee! :)
Esther GrassianEsther Grassianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02217191914673481842noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15328831.post-14618879204342597542018-11-12T20:36:58.812+00:002018-11-12T20:36:58.812+00:00Hi Sheila, I'm Cristina from Guatemala City.
